More blessed than the other greats, says R Ashwin after becoming quickest to 300 Test wickets

first_imgRavichandran Ashwin stormed past Australian great Dennis Lillee to become the fastest to 300 Test wickets. While Lillee reached the milestone in 56 Tests, Ashwin got there in 54.In the process, Ashwin, who made his Test debut in November 2011, left behind some of the greatest names in cricket history. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner now sits on top of a list which also includes besides Lillee, Muttiah Muralitharan, Richard Hadlee, Malcolm Marshall, Dale Steyn, Shane Warne and Allan Donald among others.Only 30 of the world’s greatest ever bowlers managed to enter the 300-wicket club before Ashwin today but the Indian superstar was the fastest among them. However, the senior pro was completely modest about his achievement and refused to be drawn into comparisons with any of the greats.Do you think @ashwinravi99 can become India’s record Test wicket-taker? #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/FrMu5RBArQ- ICC (@ICC) November 27, 2017″We are a bit more blessed than the other greats. We have technology to help. We have help with our fitness so we shouldn’t compare,” Ashwin, who finished with eight wickets in the second Test as India hammered Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in Nagpur, said.In fact, Ashwin got his 300th wicket with the carrom ball and he was proud of that, especially because he had been away from international cricket since the last time India played Tests in Sri Lanka.”The carrom ball was a good ball, I haven’t bowled many of those in the last 24 months.”300th Test wicket for @ashwinravi99 and #TeamIndia take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match Test series. He knows the next big challenge he will face is when India tour South Africa. It will be arguably the biggest test for the world no. 1 Test side. “I have worked on different releases for it and now that we are travelling, I think I needed that extra bit.”last_img read more
