Women’s Basketball Returns Home To Host Illinois State

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women’s basketball team returns to the Knapp Center for its first home game since Jan. 22 when it hosts Illinois State on Friday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Knapp Center with the contest being broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3 and on the radio on 1350 ESPN Des Moines. The Bulldogs used a balanced scoring attack in the win over the Purple Aces as five different players scored 10 or more points. On the season, Drake has six players averaging 9.5 or more points, led by the conference’s top scorer in senior Lizzy Wendell (Blue Springs, Mo.) at 21.7 points per game. Wendell is on an incredible individual scoring streak having scored double figures in 100-consecutive games, a streak that dates back to her freshman season. Sunday’s win at Evansville set another program milestone as it is the 800th win in program history. Drake’s win total ranks in the top-40 nationally among Division I programs, second in the MVC behind Missouri State and is the most in the state of Iowa.center_img Drake (18-4) returns to its home floor coming off a 73-48 road win over Evansville on Super Bowl Sunday. The Bulldogs have 12-straight victories, including winning their first 11 Missouri Valley Conference games for the program’s best ever start to league play (1997-98; 10-0).
